Where’s Ella? Find out TODAY!
Still struggling with amnesia, Ella questions everything she’s known about Kayden Wilkens—the alluring stranger who claims to have found her unconscious in an alleyway a month earlier. But was he truly a stranger—or did Kayden know her before his supposed rescue? Tormented by the potential betrayal he denies, with fleeting memories of a bombshell in her recent past, Ella must face a hard reality. Every action has consequences . . . and trusting Kayden, the one thing she most desires, might result in the direst consequences of all.
Crossing behind the couch toward the kitchen, I find myself remembering those naked, intimate moments with Kayden only a short time ago. The passion. The trust I’d felt for him. And then his words: “We both want more. Until we don’t.” The words send a surge of adrenaline and nerves through my body.
The scent of freshly brewed coffee teases my nostrils as I reach the kitchen, where I immediately find Kayden standing behind the island. But it’s not him that makes my heart lurch, as usual. It’s my gun that’s lying on the counter between us.
And when I should perhaps step backward I find myself charging forward to claim the other side of the counter.
“What is that for?”
“You thought you needed it earlier,” he says. “I want you to have it now.”
My fingers curl on the tiled counter. “Do I need it?”
“That’s for you to decide.”
“That isn’t the answer I want.”
His jaw sets hard. “If you’re expecting an answer you’ll want, you’d better pick up that gun.”
We stare at each other, a push and pull between us that has nothing to do with fear or intimidation, and everything to do with a bond we both know is being tested. “I know what you’re doing.”
“What am I doing?”
“The same thing you did outside that church, when you helped me hold the gun to your chest.”
“Which is what?”
“Offering me the façade of control.”
“You holding a loaded gun on me in no way equals a façade.”
“I know you now,” I counter. “You don’t give up control, even when you say you are.”
He rests his hands on the counter, one turned just enough for me to catch a glimpse of the hawk inked on his wrist, its wings spread, the mark of a man whose rules of many must dictate his actions. “There are two sides to this coin,” he says, his words drawing my attention, his pale blue eyes piercing mine. “The me with you, and the me with everyone else.”
“We barely knew each other at the church.”
“I’d already decided you were mine. You just didn’t know it yet.”
Although the Careless Whispers series is a continuation of Lisa’s Inside Out series, the books from Inside Out do not have to be read first. However, Denial, Demand and Surrender, must be read in order.

The first time I met Chase Parker, I didn’t exactly make a good impression.
I was hiding in the bathroom hallway of a restaurant, leaving a message for my best friend to save me from my awful date.
He overheard and told me I was a bitch, then proceeded to offer me some dating advice.
So I told him to mind his own damn business—his own tall, gorgeous, full-of-himself damn business—and went back to my miserable date.
When he walked by my table, he smirked, and I watched his arrogant, sexy ass walk back to his date.
I couldn’t help but sneak hidden glances at the condescending jerk on the other side of the room. Of course, he caught me on more than one occasion, and winked.
When the gorgeous stranger and his equally hot date suddenly appeared at our table, I thought he was going to rat me out.
But instead, he pretended we knew each other and joined us—telling elaborate, embarrassing stories about our fake childhood.
My date suddenly went from boring to bizarrely exciting.
When it was over and we parted ways, I thought about him more than I would ever admit, even though I knew I’d never see him again.
I mean, what were the chances I’d run into him again in a city with eight million people?
What were the chances a month later he’d wind up being my new sexy boss?

I stumbled upon the Stockholm Diaries–Amazon recommended it to me since I’ve written two novels and a novella set in Scandinavia–and am I glad I listened to them. The Stockholm Diaries: Caroline is a great love story about a young American expat trying to figure out what she wants in life and a Swedish former NHL hockey player trying to keep his personal and public lived separate. Fate pushes the two of them together early one morning during the magical days of Swedish summer–when the sun never properly sets and you feel like almost anything could happen.
Rebecca Hunter does a great job of capturing the attraction and passion between Caroline and Niklas. I especially loved how she wrote about Caroline’s friendship with fellow expat Veronica, with whom Caroline shares all of her secrets and fears. Hunter excels at describing Stockholm and the city becomes more than just a setting. It becomes a character as well.
I loved reading the Stockholm Diaries and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
After reading the first book in the Stockholm Diaries series, I absolutely had to read Book 2. Now we catch up with Caroline and Niklas at the tail end of their travels and real life is looming before them. For Caroline, it means finally deciding if she’ll go back to Stockholm with Niklas or stay in Detroit for a while and try to make a name for herself as a travel photographer. For Niklas, it’s about either staying in Detroit to play for the Red Wings (even though he’s not really so keen on the idea of returning to the team after allegation that he’d abused a woman when in reality it was one of his teammates who was the culprit, but it would mean he and Caroline could be together) or returning to Sweden to play for Djurgården, his former hockey team who’ve offered him a one-year contract.
Throughout the book, we see the struggle both Caroline and Niklas are having with trying to have a life together in Detroit. Her ex- is there and he’s a nasty piece of work. And being back in Detroit suddenly has Caroline feeling like she cannot be the person she wants to be. But she is afraid to take the plunge and leave the security of what she knows. Niklas, on the other hand, is willing to do whatever it takes for them to be together, but he wants to know that Caroline is all-in. And sometimes it feels like she isn’t, which plays into his insecurities.
I really like how this series shows the pitfalls of being in a multicultural relationship as well as what’s so wonderful about it. I also like how Rebecca has created an alpha male in Niklas without turning him into an asshole. I *really* hate this alpha male as jerk trend. I don’t care how good they are in bed, a jerk is a jerk. And Niklas is NOT a jerk. I also found Caroline’s fear of giving herself to Niklas completely to be believable. She has had such a sheltered life–with her parents trying to make decisions for her, then Brad taking over her life and making her set aside her dreams, so it’s understandable that she is afraid of the same thing happening with Niklas.
I missed more of Stockholm in this story, but I knew it would mostly take place in Michigan. Really enjoyed this story and it was wonderful to see Caroline and Niklas come full circle. Now I wonder if they’ll go to Mexico together, to meet her family there. 🙂
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Rebecca Hunter has succeeded again in capturing Stockholm summers, this time focusing her attention on the archipelago, the group of islands in the Baltic Sea to which Stockholmers love to escape from the city. This time, we focus on American Melanie, who is writing a biography of her father–a famous Swedish poet who has been a mystery to her since he left her life when she as a child–and Henrik, a very handsome Swede who happens to have his own connection to her father and an aversion to relationships.
I really loved how, despite the attraction Melanie and Henrik feel for one another almost from the very beginning of the story, they try to maintain a professional relationship (since he’s helping her with translating her father’s journals from Swedish to English). But the pull between them is just too much for either to ignore and the island isn’t really big enough to justify keeping their distance. Melanie and Henrik’s story is intriguing and very sexy–very hot scenes between the two of them and my favourite takes place in the tiny cabin of his boat. I also loved how Melanie was determined to find out why her father left her life when she was so young, even if she knew that she might not like the answers she’d find.
Another winner! So happy to have found another writer writing about Americans finding love in Scandinavia! 😀
A few months ago, I bumped into Melissa Blue on Facebook. I don’t remember if it was in one of the promotion groups or during a release party, but I do remember seeing the cover for one of the books from her Under the Kilt series and deciding I should check it out.
I started with the first book in the series, Under His Kilt, which was sexy fun and perfect for reminding me why I like Scotland and Scottish men like Ewan McGregor so much. Jocelyn and Ian had great chemistry and the story of a woman with a bucket list and exploring her fantasies with someone who should have been off-limits was a page turner. 😉 Ditto Her Insatiable Scot. Loved the set-up of the former con man Tristan (who just happens to be Ian’s brother) and the shy Keri (who just happens to be Jocelyn’s cousin) and what happens when they have to pretend to be Ian and Jocelyn to help them get the house of their dreams was another plump dollop of sexy, funny frothiness that made me laugh and cheer for a couple who were obviously meant for each other.
It didn’t take long for me to move on to Kilted for Pleasure. This time the story moves on to Callan, Ian and Tristan’s cousin, and Victoria, who works for Ian, and what happens during the three months that Victoria is in Scotland. Ian has sent her there to convince Callan to help work on restoring and repairing some antiques. And the last thing that Callan wants is to be distracted by a woman he thinks could still be wet behind the ears. And Victoria? Well, she’s been burned in the past by a man she trusted and she’s cut love out of her life.
Of the three books in the series, Kilted for Pleasure was my absolute favorite. Why? I love a story with good characterisation and deep point of view. And we get that in Kilted for Pleasure. Melissa takes us deep into both Callan and Victoria so we get a great sense of who they are and *why* they are this way without simply telling us. She shows us. Add to the mix the loveable cad, Douglass Baird–also known as the Baird–the patriarch of the Baird clan–who assumes the role of our unlikely Cupid.
You’ve got to love a book featuring a sexy, brooding Scotsman. Kilted for Pleasure is not just a sexy summer read, it’s a story about two people who’ve given up on love and who are afraid to give themselves emotionally to one another. Instead of admitting what’s in their hearts, they focus on pleasuring one another–even when they both know there are consequences. Throughout the novel, there’s so much sexual tension and release but there’s also a hell of a lot of soul-searching as these two very flawed characters traverse an emotional minefield. Neither wants to admit their feelings, yet both are falling love. And for Callan especially this is torture (in a good way) since he’s still dealing with the death of his wife. And I think that’s one of the most interesting aspects of Kilted for Pleasure (even if I do love reading about sexy Scotsmen)–not only are we watching a man fall in love, not only are we peeling away the layers of his rough and ready image, we’re experiencing the guilt and turmoil he feels as he tries to hold Victoria at bay (though he cannot stay away from her since he’s so drawn to her) and come to grips with the realisation that loving Victoria does not mean he is betraying his deceased wife.
Are there frustrating moments? Of course there are! And that’s why we love sexy rom-com. Will you fall in love with Callan? Yup! Will Victoria drive you insane even as you’re cheering you on? Yup! Will you want to go to Scotland even though you know it will be chilly and rainy during the summer? Indeed! 😉
Fun, sexy and set in Scotland. Loved it!
