Nanowrimo 2012 Update — Day 16

Today is a quickie since I am trying to reach my target word count. I was a little too quick in taking down Chapter 3 so I’ve reposted it together with Chapter 4. Sorry for being a bit too hasty! 🙂

I’m closing in on 26,000 words. I need to reach 26,666 words tonight. I’m already at 25,462–though I have to say that Chapter 7 is getting off to a really crappy start. I am telling myself not to care–just keep writing and fix it later. So I warn you, when I finally post Chapter 7 it will be a clunker.

But that’s the beauty of Nanowrimo–you’re writing quick and dirty. You just get the words out and you don’t care if they’re not your most magnificent. You don’t care if the sentence syntax is screwy. You write, you drink coffee, you sleep, you write some more. And on 1 December–if you’re lucky, you rest and tell yourself to start the revision process in a few weeks.

Anyway, it’s time for me to go back to writing!

Ciao!

Nanowrimo starts at midnight!

Yup, that’s right! In less than three hours I could start writing my next Nanowrimo masterpiece. Most likely, I will wait until tomorrow morning to start–but it depends on if I get a second burst of energy. Last night, I was so giddy thinking about Nanowrimo that I threw together a cover for this year’s NanoNovel just to keep me motivated.

My plan is to write 1700 words a day to make sure I can finish on time. On weekdays, as long as I don’t have too psycho days at work, this should be doable. Weekends are when I can manage 3000-5000-word days. I like my idea so I think that will also help me stay on track.

Last night, I figured out names for my main characters. I decided that one of the male characters (the potential sperm donor) was Danish and called Mads. The other male character (the man my heroine lives with) is Swedish and called Niklas. My heroine’s name is Laney. I’ve figured out what they all do for livings. I’ve figured out why Mads decided to become a sperm donor. I know he’s afraid of sea gulls. I know that Laney wants a baby but has no clue what do with children when she is around them. I’d tell you more but that would be revealing too much. 😉

If any of you are going to participate in Nanowrimo, add me as a buddy! You can find my profile here on the Nanowrimo site.

That’s it for now. Happy writing!
