EXCERPT

A fat raindrop plops on my nose, sliding down the bridge, followed by another and then a wet succession.

“Aw, hell.” I pull my jacket up on my elbows to provide some shelter for the two of us, but the rain trebles, more coming down and faster.

“We still have four blocks before my place,” I say. “Sorry, but the weather is unpredictable this time of year.”

Rain has already started molding the thin dress to her body, faithfully hugging every swell and curve. A hard shiver runs through her and her teeth chatter.

“Come on.” I grab her hand and duck into an alleyway. An overhang provides a tiny patch of dry ground and shelter. “We may be able to wait it out. These showers sprout up and pass over like they never happened.”

We’re sandwiched between two buildings and there is barely any light, but the moonlight finds her, sculpting shadows beneath her cheekbones and etching dark crescents of her lowered lashes. The rain has smeared her mascara, and water-slicked hair flattens to her head. She should look bedraggled, but she manages to be the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen.

I bend, tentative at first, even after last night. Even after making love to her again this morning when I chased her up the stairs. I approach slowly, giving her the chance to refuse, but she doesn’t. She meets me, eyes open, lips eager, hands bunched in my wet hair. It’s a freshwater kiss, made of rain and passion. Slow touches pick up steam until we’re frantic against the wall, hands searching, desperate to find the flesh under our soaked clothes. The inside of her thigh is slick with rain, and I trace the droplets with my finger before inching higher and burrowing beneath her panties, inside.

“Do that, Doc,” she says, a breath-starved command. “Yes.”

I lean into the damp, scented curve of her neck, leaving kisses there while my finger is knuckle-deep in paradise. Every sound she makes gets me harder, ready. She kisses my jaw, my cheekbone, pulls my bottom lip between hers.

“We should stop,” I pant across her mouth. “I can’t . . . let’s stop before . . .” How do I tell her that if we don’t, I’ll be fucking her in an alley with no regard for who might see? How do I say that without sounding disrespectful and selfish?

“Don’t stop.” She fumbles at my waist, tugging the belt from its buckle and pulling the button loose, the zipper down. “Do it.”

“Baby.” I drop my head back and groan. So tempting. I want to so badly. “The rain should let up soon. We can make a dash for it to my house.”

“Or,” she says, working her hand into my pants; finding me. Squeezing me.

“Dammit, Nix,” I groan. “Don’t make me want you any more than I already do.”

“Or,” she says again, “you can do what we both want. Take what I want to give. Right here. Right now.”

Is it surrender when you both want it? I’m not sure if it’s her will or mine that wins out, but I hitch her up, my hands full of her ass, and lock her legs at my back. I reach between us to push her panties aside and plunge in.

I feel like a god.

Yet every time she gasps and groans and tightens around my body, she conquerors me. She’s indelible. I may end up with someone else, may even love someone someday, but there is a place Lennix Moon has carved out inside of me in a matter of a few days where only she will ever fit. It’s irrational and goes against all the rules I’ve set for myself, but she feels like mine. For the next two days, she is mine.

And then we’ll walk away.

New Release: Everything’s Better with Lisa by Lucy Eden

EVERYTHING’S BETTER WITH LISA BY LUCY EDEN

Lisa Betancourt has been my neighbor for months, but I didn’t know she existed until the night she threatened me with a baseball bat. To be fair, I kinda had it coming. That was also the night my entire life changed—my biological mother passed away suddenly and mysteriously, leaving behind a surprise baby. The moment I laid eyes on CJ’s chubby face, I knew I would do anything for him. What I didn’t know was how to take care of him. Fortunately, Lisa turned out to be my salvation in more ways than one. She stepped in and changed everything. The more time I spend with her, the more I hope the change can be permanent. Unfortunately, the pressure at work and unraveling the mystery of my mother’s past makes me wonder how that could be possible…

Cole Simmons lives in the brownstone next to mine and was an insensitive jerk, or at least I thought he was until he got custody of his baby brother, who’s just as adorable as he is.  As the oldest child in a big family, I couldn’t resist stepping in to help when I realized my handsome neighbor was in over his head when it came to babies, though I’ve learned the hard way that handsome men can’t always be trusted. I moved to New York to start a new life, adjust to my new normal and heal from a bad divorce. Unfortunately, my heart didn’t get the memo, and the more time I spent with Cole and the impossibly sweet CJ, the more I start to wonder if my neighbor isn’t the only one in over his head…

This full-length novel can be read as a standalone but is the third book in the Everything’s Better series. You’ll see friends from Everything’s Better with You, Everything’s Better with Kimberly & Cherishing the Goddess. Cole & Lisa’s love story is chock full of Enemies to Lovers, Single Parent, Secret Baby (or two), Nanny (no power imbalance) & Fake Engagement goodness and is safe with NO cheating.

GETTING TO KNOW LUCY EDEN’S WORLD FOR EVERYTHING’S BETTER WITH LUCY

What inspired Everything’s Better with Lisa?

Everything’s Better with Lisa was inspired by two movies: The Jerk (1980), the hilarious and endearing story of a white man raised in a Black family who leaves home to find his way in the world, and Como Agua Para Chocolate (Like Water for Chocolate) (1993), the story of two soulmates forced apart by their families but find ways express their love for each other.

I’ve also read some fascinating articles about “non-traditional” adoptions and wanted to explore the subject. Lisa, the female protagonist, has PCOS which affects 10% of women worldwide, and I wanted to write a story of a character living with PCOS while also confronting misconceptions about fertility and childbirth. I try to make my stories as relatable and real as possible and hopefully also fun.

There are a lot of tropes in EBWL, including fake engagement, secret babies, and enemies to lovers. Exploring and twisting popular romance tropes is an interesting way to tell a story. Romance readers (myself included) are smart, discerning and know exactly what we want in a good story, but we also want to be entertained. It’s a delicate dance trying to keep readers on their toes while not seeking to reinvent the wheel.

Cole is featured prominently in the second book in the Everything’s Better series, Everything’s Better with Kimberly and was a fan favorite. I got a lot of requests for his story. I hope Cole & Lisa’s love story is worth the wait!

If Everything’s Better with Lisa were a movie, who would you cast in the parts? Tell us why. We love details!

Definitely Jack Reynor as Cole. He has Cole’s blue eyes & lopsided grin. He also has the same easygoing and nurturing vibe, but will easily fight to protect the ones he loves. He reminds me of a tree.

Naya Rivera as Lisa. She’s beautiful, smart and fierce. Naya has a gorgeous singing voice, a must for anyone playing Lisa. She also has experience playing a former high school cheerleader.

Inspiring Settings for Everything’s Better with Lisa

Most of the scenes take place in Cole’s historic Harlem brownstone. This is where an exhausted Cole would have laid his head in Lisa’s lap after a long day at the office.

Historic Harlem brownstones similar to Cole’s home

A few scenes take place in gorgeous San Juan, Puerto Rico, a place very special to Lisa and her family. It’s beautiful, fun and colorful; both in scenery and personality. Everyone should visit at least once.

3. The Sterling Beachfront Paradise is inspired by The Crane Resort in Barbados, a place I love to visit and has featured prominently in three of my books, so far. When Cole was taking care of Lisa, this is the bedroom where the “Olympic-caliber spooning” would have taken place.

EXCERPT

“Lisa,” he whispered.

“Yes, Cole?” I blinked up at him and took a step closer, his hand still resting on mine.

“I wanna kiss you. Can I kiss you?” he asked.

I giggled causing him to pull away.

I’d never been asked for a kiss before. It was adorable, silly but also somehow incredibly sexy.

“What?” he asked. I could see the look of apprehension on his face.

“Are you as good at seducing as you are at apologizing?” I reached up and stroked his cheek. I was suddenly wide awake. I swore I meant to say kissing but the word seducing came out instead. I would have been happy with a kiss but seduction sounded so much better. I couldn’t remember how long it had been since I’d been seduced.

“I’m very good at seducing.” He scooped me under my thighs and lifted me onto the kitchen island like I was a doll, making his lips more accessible. “I’m a little out of practice.” He swept my hair over my shoulder, exposing my neck, and gently pressing his lips to the soft skin below my ear. I moaned, though I wasn’t sure I meant to and Cole’s body, at least one part of his body, responded.

“Good,” I sighed. “I’m a little out practice, too.” I wrapped my legs around his waist and pressed my body into his. He was rock hard and I found myself was grinding my hips into his erection. The fact that we were both wearing thin pajamas made me feel every contour of his dick and I was flashing back to my thoughts upon seeing him earlier today pushing the stroller. Why were men with babies so fucking sexy?

He kissed his way down my neck and gently lowered me onto the countertop until I was fully reclining with my hair hanging over the other side. He lifted the hem of my shirt and pressed his lips into my soft belly and swirled his tongue into and her around my navel.

His head traveled below my belly button and I gasped.

“Cole, what are you doing?” I asked as his lips traveled to places no one’s lips had been before.

“I told you I wanted to kiss you.” He shot me a mischievous smile and slowly stroked the skin under the elastic of my pajama pants, soothing the indentation marks of the waistband. “I didn’t say where I wanted to kiss you.”

“Oh,” I whispered. “I thought you meant…” I trailed off and tucked my bottom lip between my teeth. He smiled, leaned forward and pressed his lips to mine. Then he planted a kiss on my nose, then my cheek before tenderly sucking my earlobe between his teeth and nibbling. I moaned again.

“Well, now that you know what I meant, do you want me to stop?” he whispered in my ear. My body was pulsating heat in a current that traveled up and down my arms before settled in place where Cole was eager to visit.

“No,” I half sighed, half moaned while shaking my head, causing his lips to brush the shell of my ear. “Don’t stop.”

“Good.” He let out a soft chuckle and began to make his way down my body, again hooking his fingers into the waistband of my pajamas and my panties, slowly pulling them over my thighs, ghosting a kiss or a lick on every inch of newly revealed flesh. “Because I’m just getting started.”

Excerpt
At the stadium’s concession stand, I took a tall stool, putting Georgina and I at eye level since she stood. “So, why didn’t you kiss François?” I asked. “Bad breath?”

She gasped into her hand. “My breath is fine.”

“I meant his. I’m sure yours is pure relish on a hotdog.”

She made a face. “Gross.”

“I happen to love relish,” I said. “But does François?”

Each time I said François with flourish, she flinched. I didn’t care. Something about him bugged me—I just couldn’t put my finger on it.

“We didn’t kiss because you interrupted us,” she pointed out.

“So? If I were in his position, and we both wanted that kiss, I wouldn’t let anyone stop me.”

Frank and I are clicking,” she said, scowling. “There was even mention of spending time at his summerhouse.”

“Hamptons?”

She coughed into her fist. “Boca Raton.”

The idea of Georgina spending a summer with him in Boca Raton was tragic enough that I almost smiled. I got the sense she was playing up the date. If it was so great, why wasn’t she sitting here with him? And why was I more relieved than smug about that?

“Meanwhile, Justin and I will be clamming in Montauk.”

“You two should really just make it official and announce your love to the world.”

“But then I wouldn’t get to flirt with pretty girls.”

“For someone who pretends to have as much game as you,” she said, “I still haven’t seen you successfully flirt with any girls since I’ve known you.”

I smirked.

“How do you know I’m not flirting with you right now?”

Five Favourite Things with M.W. Brown

Welcome to Day 2 of Foster an Author 2018! Today I asked M.W. Brown to join me for a round of Five Favourites. Let’s sit back, relax and get to know more about our featured author!

Giveaway alert: Want to win a copy of M.W. Browns debut novel, Portraits in Flesh? Post a question for her in the comments for a chance to win! On Friday, 26 October, I’ll choose a winner. Good luck!

Favourite place to write

image003

The perfect view for writing.

My husband and I run our own business, so life is pretty hectic and I write whenever and wherever I can squeeze half an hour to myself. I always have a notepad in my bag.

This year on holiday our apartment had a beautiful balcony overlooking the sea and I loved writing there when the day was cooling down. The view was very inspiring.

Favourite muse

I have two muses—David Bowie and my cousin. If I need an idea, I tell my cousin the general theme or problem and all she has to say is one word and it sends me down a path I may not have thought of before. When writing I like to listen to music and, because of David Bowie’s diverse catalogue, I can usually find a song or album that fits in with the mood of my chapter/story/character and use that to help fine tune the mood.

Favourite way to celebrate writing “the end”

I don’t really have a way to celebrate but as soon as I’ve finished a piece, I send it off to my cousin to read and eagerly wait for her feedback.

image002

The mysterious M.W. Brown 🙂

Favourite time of day to write

I usually end up writing late at night because of my busy schedule. There are fewer distractions and I don’t feel like I’m missing out on family time. I’ve written to the early hours of the morning on occasion.

Favourite way to relax

Reading a good book in a deep, hot, bubble bath.

Thanks to M.W. Brown for doing a round of Five Favourites with me. Don’t forget to post a question for her in the comments for a chance to win Portraits in Flesh! And make sure you stop by her website and get to know even more about the enigmatic author.  🙂

Happy reading!

Get to Know M.W. Brown and Dee Garcia for Foster an Author 2018

It’s Foster an Author 2018 and this year I am hosting M.W. Brown and Dee Garcia! All week I’ll be posting tidbits about them and helping you get to know their work.

So who’s M.K. Brown?

M. W. Brown likes to sneak away from the UK and travel to planet Bowie to write horror, supernatural thrillers, and anything dark that pops into the imagination en route. Ziggy, Aladdin, and the Thin White Duke supply copious amounts of coffee while keeping the mood suitably twisted and, when not working, can be found people-watching and searching for the elusive “normal person” to study and dissect. Portraits in Flesh, a psychological thriller with a paranormal twist, was published early 2018 and several short stories have been published in a variety of anthologies.

Screenshot 2018-10-21 at 17.13.19

And who is Dee Garcia?

Dee Garcia is a voracious fan of romance novels and a long time lover of the written word. Her mission is to craft unique, compelling stories that will give her readers a place to briefly escape the trials and tribulations of everyday reality. With headstrong heroine’s who don’t need a man to stand on their own two feet, Dee hopes to leave her mark in the Indie world, one plot twist at a time.

Giveaway alert: Interested in getting to know both authors a little better? I’ll be giving away two ebook copies of both authors’ work! All you have to do is post a comment and let me know who is your favourite celebrity obsession. I’ll choose two winners on Friday, 26 October. 🙂

Promo Blitz: Vanquished by LeTeisha Newton

If I should die before I wake,…

Then my soul is Caesar’s to take. He pulls up down, he lifts me up.

And then he leaves me in the muck.

If should fall before I fly…

Then they know it was the fault of mine. He taught me better, he led the way.

I just didn’t know how to stay.

And if I should not gain his heart…

Fuck that, he made me this way. Curled my thoughts and twisted me.

He belongs to me, forever.

When had I realized Caesar was beautiful?
Sinister and evil, sure. But beautiful.
I swallowed a whimper as heat spread through me. It was tragic the way Jason had molded me, twisted me into a woman who craved darkness like this. The scent of Caesar’s flesh made me shake, and the strength of his body left me wet. I curled my fingers into a fist over his heart, marking the steady rhythm as he carried me. As a little girl, my father had read me stories of gallant knights slaying demons for the princesses trapped in towers. I’d dream of a knight in shining armor to come rescue me when Trace started getting Momma high, and a sword of fire to cut Jason down. The knight never came, and the sword was absent. Caesar was a black knight, wrapped in dark steel on a steed of death. He came to destroy, and I felt my life with him would be a short, a brilliant spark of blood and pain, but I wanted it. Training, comfort, or knowledge, I didn’t know which to blame, but I clung to it. It’s all I knew, all I believed.
We continued down the hall, and he kicked open a door to a bedroom where Sean waited. This would be my tower, and there would be no going back unless I found a way out. I didn’t let my muscles tense, as I worried why he was there.
“The adjustments are underway. I’ll stay at the door, just in case.”
Fuck. I couldn’t escape right now, which meant I had to keep up the act. I’d have to let Caesar do whatever he had planned. To hide my clenched fist, I unfurled my fingers over his beating heart. With each thump, I felt it deeper in my blood—an echo I recognized but didn’t remember. The odd moment confused me as he took me further in the room, bypassed the bed, and stalked into a bathroom full of steam.
Embarrassment streaked through me.
Of course, he wouldn’t want to fuck a woman smelling of piss and shit.
As he lowered me into the bathtub, hot water licked over my sore muscles. The wounds had healed and had begun fading, but the heat took my breath away. I never knew how much I’d love the idea of being clean until the chance to wash had been taken away. As I sank into the water, Caesar released me and stood tall. My gaze traveled his form, drawn to the artwork and a hint into the man who held me. A bit further away, I could see the indentions of his abs and the slope into his groin muscles. Devil’s Horns, I’d always called them, and they stuck out of Caesar’s jeans. A dragon soared over his right pec, and a raging phoenix coiled around his left arm. In between the two mythological animals, Caesar had stamped himself with bits of imagery. Crows disintegrating into dust, ‘if not me, then who’ was traced in beautiful cursive on his left hip, and even more colorful art decorated him. I couldn’t dare to understand it all; it was as chaotic and confusing as the man before me.
“Took three years for the concept. You’d look good with some ink. Some big pieces, up that right side, from toe to armpit. I’d like to see that,” he said.
His eyes traveled over the flesh he envisioned, and I watched him. An odd, crazy ache brewed in my chest and my heart fluttered. What? We weren’t two people born to come together slowly over candlelight dinners and dates. We sparked, fought, and raged. But here, in the damp, misty interior of the bathroom, the outside world faded and he was just a half-naked man, and I was a broken girl wishing to be saved. His hot gaze burned over me, and deep inside something flared to life.
“Do you find me beautiful?” I asked, and sucked in a breath. I hadn’t meant to speak, to ask, but it floated between us.
He titled his head, and his narrow gaze looked everywhere but at my face. “I find you brilliant and tragic,” he whispered. Brilliant and tragic. He frowned, his brows riding low over his eyes as he shook his head. “A puzzle I can’t figure out.”

Writing professionally since 2008, LeTeisha Newton’s love of romance novels began long before it should have. After spending years sneaking reads from her grandmother’s stash, she finally decided to pen her own tales. As many will do during their youth, she bounced from fantasy, urban literature, mainstream, interracial, paranormal, heterosexual, and LGBT works until she finally rested in contemporary romance.
LeTeisha is all about deep angst and angry heroes who take a bit more loving to smooth their rough edges. Love comes in many sizes, shapes, and colors, as well as with—or without—absolute beauty and fairy tale sweetness. She writes the darker tales because life is hard … but love is harder.

New Release: Broken Clocks by Danielle Allen

According to my grandma, a broken clock being right twice a day meant that in any given situation, there are only two opportunities for perfect timing.

I fell for William Grayson in a matter of minutes. The connection between us was undeniable, but our timing was off. I was dating someone and by the time I was single again, he was taken. And a year later, when we finally got together, it was clear that we were soulmates. But circumstances out of our control cut our time short.

We were a little older, a little wiser, when our paths crossed again. I was entering a new phase of independence in both my career and my life. He was growing professionally and moving to a new city. And even though our timing was off, it was still clear that we were soulmates. But for the second time, circumstances out of our control cut our time short.

My grandma was a wise woman, but my love life taught me that there’s no such thing as perfect timing. There’s just timing… Because nothing is perfect. There’s just right now… Because tomorrow isn’t promised.

For as long as we’d known each other, William and I just wanted to be together. It was as simple and as complicated as that.

My relationship with Hunter Delucia started backwards.
We met at a wedding—him sitting on the groom’s side, me sitting on the bride’s. Stealing glances at each other throughout the night, there was no denying an intense, mutual attraction.
I caught the bouquet; he caught the garter. Hunter held me tightly while we danced and suggested we explore the chemistry sparking between us. His blunt, dirty mouth should’ve turned me off. But for some crazy reason, it had the opposite effect on me.
We ended up back in my hotel room. The next morning, I headed home to New York leaving him behind in California with the wrong number.
I thought about him often, but after my last relationship, I’d sworn off of charming, cocky, gorgeous-as-sin men. A year later, Hunter and I met again at the birth of our friends’ baby. Our attraction hadn’t dulled one bit. After a whirlwind trip, he demanded a real phone number this time. So I left him with my mother’s—she could scare away any man with her talks of babies and marriage—and flew back home.
I’d thought it was funny, until the following week when he rang the bell at Mom’s house for Sunday night dinner. The crazy, gorgeous man had won over my mother and taken an eight-week assignment in my city. He proposed we spend that time screwing each other out of our systems.
Eight weeks of mind-blowing sex with no strings attached? What did I have to lose?
Nothing, I thought.
It’s just sex, not love.
But you know what they say about the best laid plans…
