Getting closer to publishing Choose Me

Choose Me's lovely cover

Choose Me’s lovely cover

A few months ago, I shared with you a cover for a project called Choose Me. I originally thought I would have published it by April 15. That was my deadline, but then life got in the way. Well, now I am getting closer to feeling like it will be ready soon. I’ve got the first part of it under control. I’m just making some minor tweaks to it. Part One of Choose Me is a novella set in Edinburgh. Part Two will be four short stories set in Philadelphia, Richmond, Rome and London. The stories still need a tiny bit of tweaking but tweaking short stories isn’t nearly as daunting a task as tweaking a novel.

The common thread for the novella and the stories is people making choices. Choices about staying, choices about who they love and what they want. My new deadline is June 1. I think I’ll have it ready by then.

Choose Me will be available as an ebook and a POD paperback. I’ll keep you posted about the official launch date. It might be around Midsummer (June 21) since I will be in Italy the first two weeks of June.

That’s it for now! It’s bedtime for me.

Happy reading (and writing)!

Thanks to James at for making such a beautiful cover for me!

  1. Congratulations, Kim. I think choosing a self-imposed Tax Day deadline was a bad idea. : ) The stories sound great. Love your inclusion of Rome, obviously! Good luck with editing, and I look forward to the official launch day.

  2. Hi Kim, congratulations on your book. Regarding your mention of James at gooonwrite, com, please allow me to tell my experience. I paid him to make a Facebook cover for my book’s Page, and three days later he hadn’t acknowledged my payment or the order at all. He did, however, tell me about his vacation plans when responding to another order (that he said he’s too busy to do). When I asked for a refund he got very rude, and told me to go through PayPal’s dispute center, because he was going to “teach me a lesson.” Then, he proceeded to harass me via email. I’m so disgusted, I can’t bring myself to use the pre-mde kindle cover I had previously purchased from him. Now, it’s 2 days before I was supposed to publish on Amazon, I’ve got no money because he won’t refund it, I’ve no got kindle cover, no create space cover, and least of all now, no Facebook cover. And he’s so very smugly proud of himself. It makes me sick. My recommendation: writing a book and self-publishing is difficult enough, save yourself the aggravation and use another designer.

    • Wow! I am really sorry to hear you had such an awful experience with James. I hope that PayPal’s dispute center will be able to help you get your money back. If he didn’t have time to take care of your order, he should have reimbursed you immediately. And you’re right–writing and self-publishing aren’t easy, so I can understand that when something like this happens it can really deaden your enthusiasm and make you wonder if it’s really worth it. But don’t give up!

I really hope you’ll be able to find someone who can help you with your book cover so that you can release your book ASAP. I’ve used three other designers for upcoming book covers and have had positive experience with them. I would suggest getting in touch with with Arijana at CoverIt! Designs ( She is super-talented, her prices are extremely reasonable and she’s amazing to work with.
