Twenty years ago, I fell in love with The Smile of the Lamb by David Grossman. At the time I was working in a bookstore in 30th Street Station and working on my BA at Temple University. I loved this book so much that I recommended it to everyone I knew. Unfortunately, only one of my friends actually bought the book and then she didn’t bother to finish reading it because she thought it was too political and she “didn’t read to be bashed over the head with politics”–at least, that’s what she said. I think she missed the entire point but that’s another story.
